The Experience

Join us Saturday, August 5th for our 5th annual race day! No need to worry about long lines, traffic, or parking when you come to the Huckleberry Half event.   Easily grab your bib before the race starts and enjoy some coffee with your static stretching.  Our two Bigfoot are there to snap a picture with you pre-Half Walk or Run.   Even if it’s a tad chilly, you’ll warm right up and enjoy the shady running route and cool breezes.

Soak up the scenery as you walk or jog along with your friends and just enjoy having your health and using your legs.  After you have conquered this challenge; it’s time to check your results and make sure to grab your finisher’s prize for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in every category!  A little memento of your time up in Welches!

From there you may want to relax with some food, grab a photo with Bigfoot, stretch, and walk over to grab a beer at the Zig Zag Inn.  We have live music and the bar extends to an outside patio for chatting and making a full morning of the event.

Make a weekend of it and stay up in Welches!   You can camp, lodge, yurt, whatever strikes your fancy for overnight accommodations. It’s a wonderful vacation to be had for the entire family!

Camping is free along Salmon River Road extending to Green River Canyon Trailhead and it’s gorgeous!  Make sure to pack in and pack out because if not, they have threatened to close the camping down in the past.  Camping is very primitive along the river but there’s an actual campground getting near the trailhead which is about five miles south on Salmon River Road.

Besides yurts, Mt. Hood RV Park now has mini homes and they are as cute as a button!  The RV Park has access to the Wildwood recreation area making it easy to walk the dog or take baby along for a stroll.

There’s plenty of places to sojourn on the mountain and plenty to do!   Don’t compete with wedding events and plan to book as early as you can.  We recommend:
